EMDR can help process distressing experiences and reduce their ongoing emotional impact.

EMDR is a structured therapeutic approach used to help people process distressing or traumatic experiences.
Sometimes an experience has passed, but your mind and body continue to react as though the danger is still present. Certain situations, thoughts, feelings or reminders may trigger anxiety, fear or emotional reactions that feel difficult to control.
EMDR aims to help the brain process these experiences so that memories can become less distressing and have less influence over your present life.

Traumatic experiences can sometimes continue to affect how you feel, think and respond long after the event has passed. EMDR can help process these experiences and reduce the emotional distress associated with them.
EMDR is commonly associated with trauma and PTSD, but it may also be helpful when past experiences are contributing to current emotional difficulties.
I work with people experiencing difficulties such as:
We will discuss your individual circumstances before deciding whether EMDR is an appropriate therapeutic approach for you.
EMDR can be delivered effectively online when it is clinically appropriate for the individual.
The therapeutic process remains structured, but the methods used for bilateral stimulation can be adapted for online sessions.
Before beginning EMDR processing, we will discuss how online EMDR works, establish appropriate strategies for managing distress and make sure you feel comfortable with the process.
Your safety, readiness and individual circumstances will always guide the pace of therapy.
Therapy begins by understanding what has brought you to counselling, the difficulties you are experiencing and what you would like to change. We then prepare carefully before beginning trauma processing.
During EMDR, you may be asked to briefly focus on aspects of a distressing memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation. This may involve guided eye movements or other methods suitable for online therapy.
The aim isn't to erase the memory. Instead, EMDR helps the brain process the experience so that remembering it becomes less emotionally overwhelming. You remain in control throughout the session.
For some people, attending therapy online makes accessing specialist support considerably easier.
There is no travel time, and you can attend from a private space where you feel comfortable.
Online EMDR may be particularly useful if you:

EMDR isn't automatically the right approach for every person or every difficulty. Before beginning processing, I will take time to understand your history, current circumstances and what you hope to achieve through therapy.
For some clients, EMDR can begin relatively quickly. For others, it may be helpful to spend more time developing emotional regulation, coping strategies and a sense of stability before processing difficult experiences
.
Therapy is tailored to you rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme.
