Experienced Counselling with a Personal Approach
I'm Sulette Snyman, a counsellor providing counselling and EMDR therapy for adults, teenagers and children. I offer in-person counselling in Karaka, South Auckland, as well as online counselling and EMDR therapy throughout New Zealand.
For more than 20 years, I have supported people experiencing trauma, anxiety, ADHD and neurodivergence, grief, relationship challenges and difficult periods of change.
I believe counselling should provide a space where you feel safe, heard and understood, without judgement or pressure.
There is no single approach that works for everyone. I tailor counselling to the individual, taking time to understand what you are experiencing, what you would like to change and what feels manageable for you.
My approach is warm, practical and trauma-informed. Depending on your needs, I may draw from approaches including:
For some people, counselling provides a space to talk and understand what is happening. For others, particularly where trauma or distressing memories are involved, EMDR may form an important part of therapy.
Difficult or traumatic experiences can continue to affect how we think, feel and respond long after the experience has passed. I use EMDR and trauma-informed counselling to help people process difficult experiences and reduce their ongoing emotional impact.
EMDR is available face-to-face in Karaka and online throughout New Zealand.
.
I have extensive experience supporting people with ADHD and neurodivergence. ADHD can affect organisation, motivation, emotional regulation, relationships, confidence and everyday functioning.
My approach focuses on understanding your individual patterns and developing practical strategies that work for you.
Children and teenagers don't always have the words to explain what they're experiencing. Difficulties may instead appear through anxiety, emotional outbursts, withdrawal, low confidence or changes in behaviour.
My postgraduate training in Therapeutic Play Skills allows me to adapt counselling to the developmental needs of younger clients.
Children: Karaka & South Auckland
Teenagers: Karaka & Online throughout New Zealand
I have worked in counselling and therapeutic settings for more than 20 years, across New Zealand, the United Kingdom and South Africa. My experience includes private practice, child and adolescent mental health, youth wellbeing services, fertility counselling, trauma work and online therapy.
Alongside my clinical work, I have undertaken postgraduate study in psychology, therapeutic play and specialist trauma therapies. Continuing professional development, supervision and reflective practice remain important parts of how I work.
Reaching out for counselling can feel difficult, particularly if you have had previous experiences of not feeling heard or understood. My role isn't to tell you how you should feel or what you should do. Therapy is collaborative. We work together to understand what is happening, identify what you would like to change and find an approach that feels appropriate for you.
Whether you're seeking support for something happening now, trying to understand patterns that have followed you for years, or wanting to process experiences from the past, you don't have to work through it alone.
